Ministry of Housing and Works is in the process of initiating construction work on the cost-effective housing project for the low-paid federal government employees.
Talking to APP here on Sunday, Secretary Ministry of Housing and Works Abdul Rauf Chaudhry said that under phase one of this project about 5,000 flats would be constructed to provide additional residential facilities to government employees in the Capital.
He said that Capital Development Authority has proposed sites in G-10, G-11, I-14 and I-16 sectors where the chain of about 5,000 residential units will be constructed. CDA has submitted their proposal with the Interior Ministry for final approval and after approval the ministry would go ahead with its plans of construction immediately, he added.
He said that construction would be done on private-public partnership basis and the loans would be arranged from National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) or House Building Finance Corporation (HBFC).
These housing units will facilitate Federal government employees from BPS-1 to BPS-16, he added. For the construction of about 10,000 to 15,000 flats under Prime Minister's directive, Ministry of Housing had asked Capital Development Authority to identify suitable sites, which should be cost-effective.
Rauf said the government is keen to facilitate the low-paid government employees with provision of accommodation on easy instalments. About the backlog in the housing facility for government employees in federal capital, he said that with the construction of these units it would be overcome.
He said to streamline the process of allotment of houses to government employees, the Estate Office has been following ministry's instructions to allot any vacating unit immediately.
Ministry for Housing and Works had already announced that multi-storey buildings would be constructed in the Federal Capital with latest technology to give it a newer look.
