Pakistan is trying to create an environment that is conductive to private sector participation in the energy sector. Mukhtar Ahmad, the advisor to the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Energy said this while addressing a conference held on Emerging Investment Opportunities in the South Asian Power Sector here on Saturday.
Indian Minister of Power Sushilkumar Shinde inaugurated the conference and said, "The countries of South Asia share similar conditions and the power sector is no exception. We need to augment the supply of power and enhance its distribution to rural areas in the entire region."
He assured that the government of India is willing to join hands at strengthening Saarc countries and the global world. Samuel Bodman, the Secretary of Energy, USA presented a special address at the conference. "The governments have a strong role to play and policies supporting regional energy co-operation are needed. Further strengthening of economic growth will require substantial investments in energy," he said. He also encouraged the concept of renewable energy to decrease dependence on fossil fuels.-PR
