NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has directed all the district administrations throughout the province to co-ordinate with the UNICEF for making the polio campaign in Frontier province a "success story".
The district administrations should be on board in the entire exercise of polio campaign and there should be no excuse and no weaknesses in carrying out the campaign to every nook and corner of the province.
He was talking to Martin Mogwanja, representative of UNICEF for Pakistan and regional head of World Bank Dr Abdul Jabar at Frontier House, Peshawar on Tuesday morning. The meeting was attended by Secretary Health, Secretary School and Literacy and Secretary P & D.
The chief minister said that his directive for the success of the polio eradication campaign which should be followed with zeal. He would get feedback from the secret teams that he had constituted to see whether the campaign was going vigorously and whether there were any weaknesses or dereliction from duty by any corresponding departments in the province.
The officials of health, education, district administrations, revenue staff, teaching staff, police etc should be on board. The government, he categorically stated would initiate action against heads of departments if their officials demonstrated leniency at any stage in the polio campaign.
In order to remove the misconception of people regarding polio campaign , the top leadership of MMA including Maulana Fazle Rahman, leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Amir of JI Qazi Hussain Ahmad got themselves involved in convincing the people of far-flung areas of importance and effectiveness of polio drops in controlling the re-emergence of polio disease.
This time too the provincial government would involve the Ulema to deliver khutbas in Jumma congregations highlighting the importance of polio drops. He directed to get reports about the detected polio patients about the duration of their stay in frontier province.
There was no question of politicisation of polio campaign nor any body used it as a tool for political gain. It is because of ignorance and lack of awareness that obstruct the polio campaign by few people.
He assured all out support for eradication of polio from the province. The chief minister also appreciated the role of UNICEF in the overall rehabilitation process of earthquake hit people.
The UNICEF head assured the chief minister for co-operation in the provision of Hepatitis vaccine and other healthcare activities and assured that they would set with the provincial administration to find out a solution to the problems in the health sector.
They were highly appreciative of the provincial government's co-operation and assured that the UNICEF would continue to carry out activities for the rehabilitation and reconstruction plan in the earthquake hit areas of the province.
