Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Monday thanked the nation for rejecting the strike call given by the opposition parties, and said it reflected their confidence in the policies of the present government.
In a statement on his arrival here, he expressed his satisfaction that the people of Pakistan showed their indifference to the negative and agitational politics of the opposition parties. He noted that the people had detached themselves from the opposition parties' attempts of politicising the issue, which was purely a constitutional and legal in nature.
Shaukat Aziz said that the rejection of strike call also indicated the people's deep interest in the socio-economic development of the country. He said the negative tactics of the opposition to influence the judiciary and create hindrance in the way of ongoing fast pace of development have been fizzled out.
The prime minister hoped that the process of development and the government's concerted efforts improving the socio-economic conditions of the people cannot be stopped if the people continue to keep themselves away from such strike calls. Referring to the media reports, Shaukat Aziz noted that the opposition parties failed to have a response from the masses to their protest call.
He went on to add, it was apparent that the people were more interested in daily business activities than to be a part of strikes and agitation. Overwhelming majority of the masses believe that the opposition's protest was for their personal gains and had nothing to do with the welfare of masses, the prime minister added.
