The scholarships offered by China are playing an important role in imparting high education to the Pakistani students and also contribute to deepening friendly relations between the two countries.
To further boost the co-operation in educational sector, there was need to generate more educational activities like holding of quiz competitions between various educational institutions, said a senior official of Pakistan Embassy. The Pakistani students could also avail of these scholarships for their PhD courses, he said.
He said that realising the fact that there was great potential available in China in the field of education, the government of Pakistan had also launched schemes for students for PhD courses in China.
He said that under this scheme, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) was sending students for PhD courses in different phases every year. He pointed out that to push these activities forward, there were various proposals, including establishment of educational institutions by China in Pakistan.
He pointed out that the HEC was already working to establish a Chinese model university in Pakistan, and added that with the co-operation of foreign universities, included one of China, nine universities would be established in Pakistan.
The official said that China had made remarkable achievements in the medical field, including latest and most modern facilities available in their laboratories and Pakistani students here were getting full advantage of these facilities.
As there was strong competition in Pakistan in getting admission in various medical colleges, therefore, if China opened such institutions in Pakistan it would be beneficial for both the countries, he added.
He pointed out that every year China offered 65 scholarships and for this purpose, there was need to adopt such a procedure under which not a single scholarship was lapsed.
To a question, he said that there was also interest among Chinese students for getting education in Pakistan and they were also availing of the scholarships offered by Pakistan. To a question, he said that there were two categories of students coming here from Pakistan, one are those who were studying on scholarship scheme and other on self-finance and in all, there were over 2,000 Pakistani students getting education in China that included 800 scholarship students.
