Eid Milad-un-Nabi (peace upon him) was celebrated - with religious enthusiasm and solemnity in Multan and other parts of southern Punjab on Sunday amid tight security to avert any eventuality. Police, elite force and volunteers were deployed on the routes of the processions and important places.
Stringent security measures have been taken on the occasion. Surveillance cameras have been fixed at the routes of processions. Securitymen have been assigned duties around the public gathering places to avoid any untoward incident on the blessed day of birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him).
"We have taken all precautionary measures for the safety of life and property of the people on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi to avert any eventuality," Regional Police Officer Mirza Muhammad Ali said.
The day began with recitation of holy Quran and special prayers at mosques in Multan and other parts of the country after Fajr prayers. The faithful prayed for unity of the Islamic world and stability of Pakistan. Important government and private buildings, mosques and streets across the country are decorated with lights, green flags, colourful buntings and banners on the eve of Eid-Milad-un-Nabi. Two major processions were taken out by Anjuman Islamia and City District Government, which were joined by more 100 small processions. Various religious, social and cultural organisations organised their programmes of Milad Mahafil and Seerat gatherings where speakers highlighted various aspects of the life and teachings of Holy Prophet.
Special Seerat banners and illumination of public buildings throughout the country were also arranged. Important government and private buildings, mosques and streets across the country were decorated with lights, green flags, colourful buntings and banners welcoming the festive day commonly known as Eid-Milad-un-Nabi.
