City Nazim Mustafa Kamal has said that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will purchase a fleet of buses from Switzerland to run on I I Chundrigar Road, and has provided the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) Rs 220 million for reconstruction of the road.
Talking to newsmen on Monday during inspection of Ismail Ibrahim Chundrigar Road he said that SBP had constituted a committee for I I Chundrigar Road beautification, comprising several banks located on this Road to provide CDGK about Rs 220 million to execute the project.
He vowed that CDGK would leave no stone unturned to make I I Chundrigar Road the best road of the country, and the project would be completed in three months, and within the available financial resources of Rs 220 million.
The City Nazim said that the completion time of the said project had been cut to three months from 18 months through spadework before initiating it with a view to ensure the project completion at the earliest, besides facilitating the commuters.
He said that CDGK had already outlined the plan, and in this regard it had also consulted KESC, PTCL, Sui gas company and other relevant civic departments and other institutions so that utility cables and other lines could be shifted to roadside to avoid unnecessary damages to them during the reconstruction phase.
Kamal said that beautification and reconstruction work of I I Chundrigar Road had been divided into two phases. In the first phase, reconstruction work of the road would be undertaken from Mereweather Tower to Habib Bank Plaza, and in the second phase it would be undertaken from Habib Bank Plaza to Shaheen Complex, Ziauddin Ahmed Road, he said.
Underlining the significance of Chundrigar Road, he said that it was the hub of financial institutions and required special attention from the authorities to revamp it to facilitate the public.
Regarding car parking problems, emerging after the reconstruction of Chundrigar Road was undertaken, he said that Railways authorities had been asked to provide railway ground, located on the road, to CDGK for a few months so that public could park their vehicles there. He added that he had contacted the railway ministry through formal channel for this purpose, hoping that issue would soon be resolved.
