President General Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday returned the resignation of Federal Minister for Industries and Production Jahangir Khan Tareen, and ordered a judicial inquiry into the Rahim Yar Khan incident, which claimed lives of two PML (Functional) workers.
Jahangir had tendered resignation on last Saturday, after two workers of PML (Functional) were reportedly killed by bullets fired by police. Tareen, who normally works till evening, did not return to his office, cancelled all of his official engagements and even did not appear in a program of judicial crisis on Aaj TV. Sources said that 'invisible hands' involved in killing of two PML (F) workers, had launched a massive character assassination campaign, in print and electronic media, against Ahmad Mahmmod, a former federal minister, and Jahangir Tareen.
Sources told Business Recorder that the President had contacted Tareen, who rushed to Islamabad and met him despite his engagement in Lahore due to marriage of his daughter on Thursday, April 5. They said that the President did not accept Tareen's resignation, and said: "I would not let you go." The President heard the Minister's grievances in detail, including Chief Minister Pervez Elahi who reportedly intends to crush Mukhdoom loyalists, and ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident of Rahim Yar Khan.
Tareen said that it was an honour for him that President had called him and returned his resignation. "I am satisfied after the meeting with President and at the same I am very humble that President heard me and ordered a judicial inquiry," he said.
However, an official told this scribe that the President has promised to investigate the issue thoroughly and would take appropriate action against those administration officials and politicians who were reportedly behind this new crisis.
