Federal Minister for Railways, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has said government would not withdraw its reference against non-functional Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. "People who are talking about it have their own interests as they want to deprive the country of the fruits of present economic policies."
He said this while talking to reporters after launching Nishter Express at Rawalpindi Railway Station here on Wednesday. The minister said since the matter is sub judice, he would not talk on it. But, he added, the government is firm on its stand on the reference.
He rejected any rift within the government saying that government is strong and stable and would continue till next general elections. No minister would tender resignation because everyone is convinced of the government policies," he added.
He said opposition wants to gain political mileage by politicising this sensitive issue. People are watching what is happening in Islamabad and they will not spare negative people. Media is showing the picture to masses that how a few people are creating fuss, he said.
Rashid said Shaukat Aziz would continue as premier till general election. Presidential elections would be held this year and later on general elections would be conducted during the year, he said.
Earlier, addressing the Nishtar Express launching ceremony, Railways Minister said by establishing rail link between Pakistan and Iran, country would be connected to Europe as well. During Iran visit, pros and cons would be decided on Quetta-Zahidan train link as it would bring two brotherly countries closer, he hoped.
He said Pakistan Railways would set up a station near New Islamabad Airport to provide easy communication link to the people. Feasibility study is under consideration for laying rails and constructing station and after inauguration of new airport, work would be started, he said.
He lauded the dedicated efforts of railway employees saying that he would make efforts to give sufficient salary relief to them in the next budget. Earlier, the Minister launched the Nishter Express. Nishter Express, 51 up and 52 down, would run from Rawalpindi on every Wednesday and Saturday between Rawalpindi and Karachi and earn an income of Rs 5.334 million per month.
