Federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi has said that uninterrupted power supply to the consumers is the prime responsibility of the officers concerned.
Attending a briefing on the performance of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hecso) here on Tuesday he said that the government was fully committed to energising every nook and corner of the country. The Minister emphasised the need for completion of all power projects within the scheduled time to improve the transmission system and remove inconvenience experienced by consumers.
All development programmes of power sector, particularly Village Electrification Programme, should be completed within the timeframe, he said, and added that the government fully desired to provide electricity to the remote areas of the country.
He said that more grid stations were being established while new power transmission lines were being installed with the object of providing uninterrupted power supply to the consumers.
The Minister emphasised the need for launching a comprehensive dues recovery campaign, and added that power should be disconnected, irrespective of any influence and pressure, if the consumers failed to clear their outstanding arrears.
Jatoi appreciated the performance of Hesco officers for reducing line losses by 4 percent, but said that the losses could further be reduced if the officers concerned worked harder, with honesty and dedication.
Hesco Chief Executive Officer Maqbool Ahmed Khawaja, briefing the minister, said that a massive campaign for dues recovery had been initiated in Sindh, except Karachi, and vigilance committees were engaged in the recovery of arrears from defaulters.
The CEO said that Rs 117 million has so far been recovered in connection with power theft, while the vigilance committees had also regularised 66,262 illegal connections.
About the recovery of Rs 7.7 billion in respect of outstanding dues against Sindh government departments, he said that fruitful negotiations were carried out with the high- ups of the provincial government and it was expected that Hesco would receive these outstanding arrears soon.
He said that during the current financial year, Hesco had completed 1388 power schemes in different parts of the province, besides upgrading of various grid stations.
In order to provide uninterrupted power supply, Maqbool said, power transformers were being installed at Arain Road, Larkana, Pir-jo-Goth and Rohri grid stations. Among others, Hesco Chief Power Sukkur Karim Bux Qureshi, Chief Engineer Jamiluddin and Chief Engineer Operation Ghulam Hussain Kolachi also attended the briefing besides all Circle Managers and Deputy Managers Operation Divisions.
