Pakistan is a developing country which boasts of one of the world's fastest growing economy. However, such development is always power hungry. To cater to the energy needs of this developing economy, power generation resources have to be developed that can keep pace with the rapid rate of development.
Currently, we face a shortfall in supply, as demand has outstripped the available resources. This is why the Government is focusing attention on the development of power generation resources on an urgent basis, in the public as well as the private sector so that the momentum of development should not decelerate.
I am very happy to note that energy sector's first dedicated publication, Energy Update, has arranged a Conference, PowerGen Con to provide a platform to all the relevant stakeholders of the power generation sector to discuss related matters.
I am quite sure that the presence of industry experts in this Conference will yield in some very valuable insights that can be shared and the Government will look with great interest at the suggestions put forth by the participants of the Conference.
I feel that forums such as this Conference are a very encouraging trend as they assist the Government in policy formulation through their proceedings that carry the weight of the opinion of industry experts. My best wishes go out to the participants and organisers of the Conference.
