Rapid economic growth in Pakistan and resolve of the government to take electricity to every nook and corner of this country has necessitated that the power generation capacity be enhanced to meet the demand for power.
The government has prepared an energy security plan when envisages amassing of energy from thermal, nuclear hydel and renewable sources. Besides, plane for improvement and extension of transmission and Distribution network are also in hand to enhance quality and reliabilities of supply to consumers.
To implement this plan, both public and private sectors have to work hand in hand. The government has already announced power policy 2002 and Renewable Energy Policy 2006 to attract Investment in Power Generation. Karachi Electric Supply Corporation has already been privatised and preparation for privatisation of Jamshoro Power Generation Company and Faisalabad Distribution Company are in advance stage.
The initiative taken by "Energy Update" to arrange this full day Conference of stakeholders from private and Public Sector to enable mutual consultation on issues and challenges for enhancing power generation infrastructure is commendable.
The Ministry of Water fully supports this effort. This kind of collaboration between the stakeholders and the partnership of responsible trade media bodies augers well for the energy sector. It enable all concerns parties from the public as well as private sector, to meet and discuss the current scenario, as well as future plans for the country. I wish success of the effort and expect that this will produce valuable input for policy makers.
