Khush Bash Athara, a renowned regiment of artillery corps, installed their 'Colonel of the Regiment' to celebrate their 57th 'Raising Day' here on Friday. Lieutenant General Khalid Ahmad Kidwai, who is also Colonel Commandant Artillery Regiment, was the chief guest on this occasion.
He, along with general officer commanding Major General Raheel Sharif, pinned the badges of rank on to the shoulders of new colonel of the battalion, Major General Muhammad Ashraf Tabbassam, a celebrated soldier of Pakistan Army.
The ceremony was attended by Commandant Artillery Centre Brigadier Tahir Mahmood Zahid, Commander Corps Artillery Brigadier Muhammad Javaid, Commander Artillery Division Brigadier Maqsood Ahmad Abbasi and a large number of serving and retired officers, junior commissioned officers and jawans of the regiment.
Addressing the ceremony, Lieutenant General Khalid Ahmad Kidwai paid glowing tributes to the professional acumen of Major General Muhammad Ashraf Tabbassam and expressed the confidence that the regiment would touch new heights of professionalism under the able and matured guidance of its new colonel.
He said that the courage and dedication of officers and jawans during war and peace-time have earned the regiment a place of glory and pride in Pakistan Army that has reposed full confidence in the professional performance and combat skill of the Artillery Regiment as a whole.
Recalling his association with the unit Major General Muhammad Ashraf Tabbassam appreciated the services rendered by it for the country. He thanked the officers and jawans for choosing him colonel of the 'Khush Bash Athara' and assured them to come up to their expectations and confidence reposed in him.
Earlier, the commanding officer of the regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Kaukab Hassan in his welcome address dilated upon the history of the unit and recalled its meritorious services rendered for the defence of motherland.
