Central Information Secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-N Ahsan Iqbal has said that General Pervez Musharraf considers himself absolute authority and any deal with the government will be political suicide.
In an interview with BBC, he said whenever the opposition came in a position to exert pressure on the government, it tried to create mistrust in its ranks through the misinformation of deals. To a question, Ahsan Iqbal said the PML-N stance was very clear. He said the PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had agreed on the point in the Charter of Democracy that any kind of negotiation or deal with the present rulers would be a negation of the struggle for democracy.
He was of the opinion that the opposition parties should put their entire weight in one side of the balance for the restoration of democracy and ensure free and fair elections in the country so that they could be able to get rid of the military rulers.
To another query, he said the senior most leadership of the Peoples Party had clearly assured them that it would stick to the Charter of Democracy and the charter of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD).
