Repair and maintenance of school buildings in Lahore would commence very soon and it would cost the City District Government Rs 35 million during the current fiscal year. Lahore District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood expressed these views while talking to nazims, councillors and notables of various union councils here on Monday, disclosed an official.
The city nazim told them that an amount of Rs 9 million had been allocated for repairing 36 high schools for boys and girls besides earmarking another Rs 1.5 million for 15 elementary schools of the city.
"All the 1,100 schools being run by the city district government have been provided repair grant for carrying out repair works of buildings including whitewash as well as meeting other local requirements," he informed the guests.
According to him, every middle school in the city had been extended a repair grant of Rs 30,000 whereas every primary school had been given Rs 20,000 for this purpose. The concerned school councils have been empowered for making expenditure from these grants and utilising them judiciously for uplifting school buildings.
Orders for procurement of more than 13,000 desk benches for students of government-run schools have been placed with three firms. More furniture would also be purchased for ensuring provision wherever required.
