A high-level meeting presided by Sindh Minister for Local Government, Katchi Abadis and Spatial Development, Muhammad Hussain Khan decided that Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) would extend technical assistance to cantonment board for effective implementation of building by-laws and monitoring of housing projects.
It was also decided in the meeting that a representative from the cantonment areas would regularly attend the Open Katchery of minister local government every Wednesday in his office to redress the problems of the allottees of housing projects in the cantonment areas.
Director Military Land and Cantonment, Banal Khan Masud assured the minister that the cantonment board would extend all possible help to KBCA in particular and Sindh government in general. He said that the KBCA should transfer its knowledge and expertise with regard to building control by-laws, to the cantonment boards.
Chief Controller KBCA, Mumtaz-ur-Rehman said that KBCA was committed for strict implementation of building by-laws and it would be ensured at all cost.
Earlier, the minister addressing the meeting said that that with the co-operation of the Cantonment Board action would be taken against the builders operating within board premised and violating laws.
He categorically said that there was no truth in the perception being propagated by some builders and developers that as they operated in the cantonment areas, therefore they were above the law.
Chief Controller KBCA Mumtaz-ur-Rehman, Director Military Land and Cantonment Department Banat Khan Masud, Chief Executive Officers of Karachi and Malir and representatives of Clifton and Faisal Cantt Boards, D.O Land CDGK Khurram Arif and EDO MPGO Iftikhar Qaimkhani attended the meeting.
The minister further said that such builders were working only to extract as much profit as possible, assuming that no action could be taken against them on violation of laws.
He said that with the co-operation of the cantonment board, action would he initiated against such builders and developers. It was the responsibility of the government to facilitate allottees as much as possible and every necessary step would be taken in this regard, he added. He appreciated the co-operation assured by the director military land cantonment and said that it would ensure solution of problem of allottees.
