Pakistan and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for broad-based co-operation in number of areas. Both sides also at a Ministers level meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, agreed to constitute a working group for identification and implementation of the priority area for further co-operation.
The MoU was signed by Minister for Environment Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat and his Iranian counterpart Dr Fatemeh Vaez Javadi on behalf of their respective governments.
The MoU, inter alia, focus on ECO tourism, air pollution, waste management, marine pollution and bio-diversity as well as conduct joint studies, seminars, training and exchange of information on energy efficiency, environment management, industrial and vehicular emission monitoring and control.
Both sides agreed that the working group would work out the prospects of co-operation and its first meeting would be held in Tehran to expedite the implementation process.
Speaking on the occasion, Makhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat and Iranian Vice president and head of Environment Department Dr Fatemeh Vaez Javadi underscored the need of close collaboration to strengthen co-operation in the field of environment to the mutual benefits of the people of both the countries.
