The Women Development Ministry has forwarded a draft bill on 'Harassment against Women at Workplace' to Law Ministry for further consideration. Sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that after the approval of the Law Ministry, the bill would be presented in the National Assembly for approval.
They said that the bill was formulated to protect women from harassment at workplace and save them from physical and sexual abuse. The culprits involved in harassing will be prosecuted under the law so that women may work with mental peace and security.
The bill would provide relief to women facing harassment at workplace as after the promulgation of this law, punishments will be awarded to the culprits, they said. They said that the draft law has been framed keeping in view the harassment situations at workplaces adding that suggestions were also collected from non-government organisations working for women rights. Primary objective in formulating this law is to provide women a conducive environment at workplace so that they could play their role in nation building.
They said that most of the women are bread earners of their family and when a woman faces harassment at workplace, whole family suffers the trauma adding that most of the widows and divorced woman are working to support their families and children hence its government's responsibility to provide them security.
Sources said that the religious scholars and NGOs were requested to provide a comprehensive guideline to develop national and international consensus on the harassment against women at work places bill.
