Former interior minister and PPP central leader Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan has said that the government claim about deal with PPP is aimed at dividing opposition. In an interview with a private TV channel he said 'Charter of Democracy' was signed by Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto for the restoration of democracy and the PPP is honouring all principles of the charter.
The ARD will never be divided, he added. To a question Aitzaz Ahsan claimed there are no differences between Benazir and Nawaz Sharif, saying Benazir has clarified that no deal with the government has been concluded. To a question about the Presidential reference against the Chief Justice, Aitzaz Ahsan, who is also counsel for the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, said it is really a test for the Supreme Judicial Council and hoped it would succeed.
He said firstly proceeding in-camera would create suspicion, adding that Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry had objected three members of the council. If the reference means to suspend someone then all, against whom there are references, should be suspended instead of becoming members of the Supreme Judicial Council, he maintained.
