Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has explained at length the safety measures in place to make all airports safe for operations. In a statement issued here on Friday in the wake of reports published on this count.
CAA pointed out that between June and November all facilities at all CAA airports had been subjected to calibration and flight inspection as laid down by International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
According to CAA, since its aircraft was unserviceable due to an accident at Sharjah on November 26, 2006, PAF assisted CAA in maintaining these facilities by providing its Y-12 and Casa aircraft using ground-based reference and communication systems to carry out the functional checks of ILSs, VORs, NDBs and PAPLs at all major airports.
These were the additional safety measures adopted by CAA to ensure the serviceability of its navi/landing systems. Additionally, all airport authorities have been directed to closely monitor the ground test results on weekly basis of all the systems.
Any variation noted is communicated to technical directorate and flight inspection unit for further advice/rectification, CAA said adding that so far all ground test results and technical reports of these facilities suggest that these are fully serviceable and all the parameters are within the limits set by ICAO document 8071, CAA said.
