Developing countries turned in a sixth consecutive year of growth despite high oil prices, but donor nations need to make good on vows to boost aid, World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz said on Saturday.
In a statement prepared for delivery to the International Monetary Fund's steering committee, Wolfowitz made no reference to the controversy surrounding his role in securing a promotion and raise for his girlfriend, a World Bank staffer. He urged world finance leaders to deliver on promises for a good outcome to the Doha round of trade negotiations. Failure to reach a trade deal "could strengthen projectionist sentiment in developed and developing countries," Wolfowitz said.
