Fisheries department Punjab is providing free of cost advisory service to farmers and training courses are arranged frequently to disseminate improved aquaculture methods at district and Tehsil level.
This was stated by Director General Fisheries Punjab, Dr Muhammad Ayub here on Sunday. He said that due to the effective management and incentives by the government more than 32,700 acres of land in the private sector has been brought under fish culture and the number is fast increasing.
Giving details of the incentive package offered to the private sector, he informed that annual growth rate of fish farming has now been increased to 12 percent. He said that as a result of improved techniques and mass media campaign carried out by the department, fish farming in private sector has increased manifold.
Dr Ayub further said that by using the marginal land of the province, not only deficiency of protein in the human diet can be overcome but also farmers can get reasonable returns.
