The government will not leave wheat growers at the mercy of middlemen and other exploiting forces and will stay in the market till availability of last grain.
Punjab Minister for Agriculture Arshad Khan Lodhi said this while talking to newsmen on Sunday. He said wheat growers would get proper return of their produce as per commitment made by the Chief Minister Punjab with them.
Issue of shortage of gunny bags will not arise this time as the government has made these bags available at all procurement centres of Punjab Food department in sufficient numbers, he said.
Lodhi urged the farmers not to sell their produce at lower rates than the official support price of Rs 425 per 40 Kg. " Wheat growers have done a hard job of producing bumper crop and I advise them not to get frustrated and avoid selling their crop at lower rates", he said.
He said that the present government is friend of farmers and it gives high importance to the farming community and agriculture sector. To a question, he said that the government expects achieving wheat yield target of 17.8 million tonnes and believes that this year Pakistan will export the commodity instead of importing it.
