Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said on Saturday that the government still has funds of more than Rs 40 billion despite carrying out record development projects in the province.
He was addressing on the occasion of inauguration of 129th Urs of saint-poet Hamal Faqir at village Hamal Faqir, near Sakrand town, some 20 kilometres from here. Dr Arbab Rahim said he neither constructed Surrey Mahal nor filled the houses. He said his government eliminated the "Jiala Culture" from politics.
He said the opposition was doing the politics of rallies, sit-ins and demonstrations. He said they tolerated the government for four-and-a-half years and they have to tolerate it for another six months.
Sindh chief minister said the election results would show the affiliation of people. He said since his taking over as chief minister there were adequate water reserves in River Indus and extra water was being released into the sea.
He said electricity was short in the country, even then we have requested federal government not to release water from dams for electricity production.
The chief minister said Sindh government has not wasted money whereas in the past the feudals ruling Sindh obtained huge loans and brought the province under a heavy burden of loans. He said loans obtained from World Bank and IMF on exorbitant mark-up were returned, which amounted to around Rs six billion.
Dr Arbab Rahim said that Sindh is prosperous and Pakistan is also prosperous. He said the district governments were provided funds without any discrimination and without looking at the respective district government's political affiliation.
He said the Sindh government has strived to eliminate politics and corruption from the education department, imposed ban on unions and lifted a stick against corruption.
He said there was severe corruption in irrigation department. He vowed to eliminate corruption from all government departments on return to power with the support of people.
Sindh chief minister said his government was striving to provide education, health facilities and jobs to the common man. He said fully furnished hospitals would be constructed at all the district headquarters of the province.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim announced Rs 550 million for the project of potable drinking water, Rs 340 million for the construction of sewerage system and Rs 280 million for the construction of Nawabshah-Shahdadpur Bypass Road.
Earlier, soon after arrival the Sindh chief minister laid a "Chadar" at the shrine of saint poet Hamal Faqir and offered Fateha.
On the occasion President Nawabshah Press Club extended an invitation for visit to Nawabshah Press Club while former provincial education minister Sardar Khan Muhammad Dahri presented a shield to Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim.
The ceremony of Urs was also addressed by Advisor Ghulam Rasool Unar, Nazim Taluka Municipal Administration Abdul Rauf Khan, Naib Nazim Taluka Municipal Administration Sakrand Ghulam Mustafa Jalalani and others.
