City Council in its proceedings on Monday adopted a unanimous resolution to slam the police and other law enforcement agencies for their failure to control the high ratio of abduction cases for ransom in the Site Town of the metropolis. The resolution was forwarded by Abdul Razzaq of Al-Khidmat Panel.
The City council also adopted several other resolutions to condole the deaths of country's various renowned personalities, including former Sindh chief minister Abdullah Shah, ex-senator Hussain Shah Rashdi, renowned musician Nisar Bazmi, classical singer Ustad Asad Amanat Ali and notable journalist Altaf Daud.
Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil presided over the council session to resume its business left last week with a condemnation resolution against the frequent electricity failure in the city at the city council hall.
Rafiq Ahmed, leader of the Al-Khidmat panel, joined by Abdul Razzaq and other opposition members, demanded of the session convenor to let them debate on the increasing abduction cases for ransom in the city.
They pointed out that abduction cases were on rise in UC 4 of Metroville Site and UC 6 of the Frontier Colony, while police had also failed to calm down on the culprits involved in the mobile phone snatching and other criminal activities in the area.
Abdul Razzaq, nazim UC-4 Metroville Site when intended to raise the issue of worsening situation of law and order in his union council, but was not allowed to discuss the matter and was asked to forward his concerns in written.
Following the direction, he submitted his apprehension in written, which was tabled as a resolution and received a complete support from both opposition and treasury benches. It was adopted unanimously by the House.
Dilawar Shah of Awam Dost panel from Keamari Town voiced against the policies of the city government and the town administration, saying that he was not being taken into confidence pertaining to any uplift project and termed such attitude 'unfair'.
Several other resolutions pertaining to the civic and monetary issue of the city government were adopted. The city council session has been postponed till Wednesday April 18.
