The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has extended scope of its UNDP-funded project "Gender Justice through Mehsilat Anjumen Programme" (GJTMAP) to 12 more districts in the four provinces of the country.
The project is being pursued at a total cost of 7.440 million dollars and aims at assisting women and other vulnerable section of the society through safeguarding and promoting their rights and lawful entitlement.
National Project Manager Hamid Afridi told APP on Monday that GJTMAP pilot project was initially launched in eight districts and 468 union councils (UCs) of the country in 2004-06 with total cost of 1.965 million dollars. "After achieving the remarkable results, it has been decided to expand the scope of the project to 12 districts, three from each province", he added.
Giving details about these targeted districts, he said in Punjab Jhelum, Multan and Mianwali had been selected while in Sindh Jacobabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, and in NWFP, Mardan, Kohat, Swat had been brought under the project.
