Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani has said the main objective of contacts with moderate political forces is to develop consensus on vital national issues and ensure free and fair elections in the country.
About contacts with PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto he told PTV that the government did not want to achieve any personal gains and it was working to end confrontation in the interest of the country's progress and prosperity.
Terming the use of word 'deal' inappropriate, he said the proper term was contacts, which were meant to take the country forward. President Musharraf did not want to conceal anything from the people, he added. He said change in the government was possible only through elections, adding that PML would win the elections on the basis of its performance and immaculate record.
Indeed the final decision about future partners rests with the people as days of conspiracies are finally over, he said. He said PPP Chairperson Bhutto's desire to work with President Musharraf, though belated, was positive as she recognised the view point of saner elements and acknowledged the mood and wishes of people of Pakistan after seven years.
Responding to a question regarding stance of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif he said he went to London from Jeddah after seeking consent of the government. "Contacts are there with all political forces; some are exhibiting maturity while some are showing immaturity," he added.
