The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued stay order against the disqualification of Punjab Labour Minister Rana M Qasim Noon by suspending a judgement of Election Tribunal.
The Election Tribunal had disqualified the Punjab Labour Minister Rana M Qasim Noon earlier this month and declared his opponent Mehdi Abbas of PML(N) as winner after votes were recounted.
Qasim Noon filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of Election Tribunal. A two-member bench of the apex court comprising Mr Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar and Mr Justice Syed Jamshed Ali after hearing the preliminary arguments of the petitioner stayed the judgement of Election Tribunal.
The court adjourned the hearing till April 24. Advocate Ali Zafar and Advocate Muneer Paracha appeared for the petitioner. Mehdi Abbas belongs to Pakistan Muslim League (N) and he lost the seat of Punjab assembly with a difference of 150 votes in general election held four years back.
Qasim Noon has been elected as Member Provincial Assembly of the Punjab contesting election on both national and provincial seats in general election 2002. He worked as Minister for Agriculture Marketing from November 24, 2003 to November 30, 2006. He is functioning as Minister for Labour and Human Resource since December 1, 2006.
GUIDELINE FOR VISITORS: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued guidelines for the visitors during hearing of the Presidential Reference against Mr Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
In a press release, the Supreme Court of Pakistan said that the members of the bar, media personnel and the general public visiting the Supreme Court on the days of hearing of the Reference shall abide by certain instructions and guidelines.
Entry will be allowed to the advocates of the Supreme Court/Advocates-on-Record whose cases are fixed for hearing before any of the benches on such days. The litigants visiting the Court on such days will be allowed entry on proof of identity.
Advocates Supreme Court and Advocates-on-Record may visit the bar room and the Court offices in connection with official business. Media personnel interested in the coverage of routine proceedings of the Court can enter the Courtrooms. However, they are not allowed to carry mobile phones/cameras beyond the Public Reception.
The press release said that it is expected that the Advocates, media personnel and the members of the public shall strictly observe the general norms of decorum and propriety associated with the dignity of the apex court.
