Upwards trend was seen on the grain market on Wednesday on rising demand and short supplies from the upcountry centres, dealers said. Most of the changes were on the rice sector due to strong demand by the exporters. Some wholesale traders said the demand from overseas market and local buyers was up which mostly pushed the price of Basmati types.
They said that demand from the European markets is growing sharply as according to a news report Indian rice was also in demand as it exported some 200 tonnes of Basmati to China, it shows that demand will rise further in the coming days.
Irri-6 Sindh low type shed Rs 10 to Rs 1415 and better type was higher by Rs 10 to Rs 1440. Basmati D 98 Shahdadkot low variety was sharply higher by Rs 200 to Rs 3500 and good type picked up Rs 150 to Rs 3550, Super Basmati followed suit and gained the same amount at Rs 3700-3750.
Basmati 386 rose by Rs 100 to Rs 3550-3600, Sela Basmati picked up the same amount at Rs 4000-4200, Super Karnal new inferior type was higher by Rs 200 to Rs 4700-4800.
Basmati (broken) low type picked up Rs 100 to Rs 2000 but the good type did not show any change at Rs 2200, they said. On the cereal side, moong Punjab was higher by Rs 250 to Rs 3750, masoor Australia was up by Rs 100 to Rs 3250, masoor Canada rose by Rs 150 to Rs 3250 and masoor dal rose by Rs 200 to Rs 3800, they said.
