New hostels and barracks for police official are being constructed in the districts of Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan with a total cost of Rs 325.157 million. This was informed in a meeting held here on Friday to review the pace of development work on barracks and hostels.
Punjab Communication and Works Minister Chaudhry Zaheer-ud-Din presided over the meeting. The minister was informed that 10 barracks and three hostels were being constructed at Police Constabulary, Bedian Road and Lahore. The total cost of this project is Rs 224.842 million while Rs 49.173 million has so far been spent and Rs 20 million has been allocated during the current fiscal year.
Likewise, the construction of hostels and barracks at Rawalpindi Police Lines is in progress. A total amount of Rs 16 million has been earmarked for this project and Rs 5 million has so far been spent while the total cost of this scheme is Rs 68.695 million.
Barracks and hostels for police personnel in Multan would also be constructed with the cost of Rs 31.616 million. Rs 7.105 million has been spent while during the current fiscal year Rs 10.786 million were allocated for the project.
Chaudhry Zaheer directed the Chief Engineer (Works) to ensure use of quality material in all the on-going schemes and also ensure their completion within the stipulated period. Secretary C&W Muhammad Ahsan, Additional Secretary (Technical) Masood-ur-Rasool, Chief Engineer Works Muhammad Iqbal Khokhar and representatives of Police Department attended the meeting.
