KARACHI: Sindh Department of Transport and Mass Transit will launch Pink Bus Service for Women Commuters of Karachi by June this year, Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said here Wednesday.
Talking to APP, during the pre-launching ceremony of "Pink Taxi," a dedicated service for women and by women, he said government was fully cognizant of problems faced by women commuters and also their limitations in terms of capacities to meet commuting expenses.
"Sindh Government has therefore developed a policy under which a fleet of buses to be introduced on the roads of Karachi that will have sizable number of those exclusively meant for women passengers," he said.
In reply to a question he said there would initially be one women dedicated bus on each route and as per need of women commuters the numbers may be raised.
"Karachi roads will witness introduction of 500 to 600 buses by June this year," said the minister for transport and mass transit.
He agreed that with growing number of women joining work-force it was extremely important to facilitate their mobility.
He on the occasion also felicitated PAXI Pakistan Private Ltd for introducing Pink Taxi alongwith Bike Service and PAXI Taxi for families.
The Minister hoped that these services to be formally launched on March 23 will be gradually extended to all divisional headquarters in the province.
