Over 180 participants will benefit from the four-day "ACCA Faculty Excel 2007" conference, which started in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi on Tuesday. ACCA has invited a senior trainer Rhys Johnson who is a chartered accountant with 15 year's experience in accountancy education.
Rhys was Head of Education at ACCA where he was responsible for the development the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) qualification and undertaking a review of the ACCA professional qualification. Until recently Rhys was Managing Director of the largest private sector accountancy training college in Singapore.
ACCA Pakistan is engaged in the capacity building of accountancy faculty across Pakistan. In this regard, Teachers' Conference is an international event organised by ACCA in UK, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Caribbean, Ghana, Zambia and Kenya since 2003.
In Pakistan, ACCA has organised two such events so far, ie in 2004 and 2006. Encouraged by the response from the teachers, the frequency of this event has been increased to one every year. The event in 2006 was held in Lahore and Karachi and was attended by over 120 Accountancy trainers from across Pakistan. Two master trainers were invited from UK to speak on the occasion.
Arif Masud Mirza, Chief Executive of ACCA highlighted the need for holding faculty trainings said "At ACCA Pakistan we believe that the only was to ensure sustainable development of professional talent is by committing to and investing in developing our human resource to ensure that we equip our faculty with modern skills and expertise to enable them to deliver the ACCA qualifications successfully.
