The mobile phone sector has registered 5.2 percent growth in March against the previous month with cellular density jumping to 35.79 percent and the subscribers base to 55.61 million.
The information placed on Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) website, updated on April 23, provides statistics only on cellular mobile subscribers, as no information was available on trend in fixed line, value-added service in Payphone, and Internet beyond December 2006.
However, robust growth in mobile sector continued in March, as except Instaphone, all operators gained their subscribers' base substantially bringing the total number of mobile users to 55,617,101 by the end of March.
Mobilink has added almost one million subscribers over 7,66,904 subscribers to its network only in the month of March, increasing the total number of subscribers to 24.62 million in March from 23.88 million in February.
The Ufone added 7,11,060 mobile users to its network in the month of March bringing total subscribers to 11.59 million in March from 10.88 million in the month of February.
Paktel has also added 2,099 users to the network in the month of March and 1.32 million people are subscribing its services in March which were 1.30 million in February whereas the Instaphone subscribers declined to 310,756 from 314,871 in March. Telenor Pakistan and Warid also made substantial totalling to their network. Telenor Pakistan added 726,232 users to its network while Warid added 530,768 subscribers.
The Telenor network users have increased to 9.07 million in the month of March from 8.34 million while Warid have over 8.95 subscribers which were 8.42 million in February. The five mobile companies have added over 2.7 million subscribers to their network in the month of March and broadened the country's users based from 52.88 million in the month of February to 55.61 million subscribers in the month of March.
