Pakistan Academy of Letters chief Iftikhar Arif has requested the Sajjada Nasheen, Hazrat Moeenuddin Chishti's Mausoleum in Ajmer Sharif, Syed Sarwar Chishti, to send him literature on life histories of Sufis and mystics of the sub-continent for the education of the youth.
Arif Iftikhar made the request during a meeting in which the Sajjada Nashin from Ajmer delivered a lecture on the subject of Sufism held here on Friday at the Islamic Ideology Council. Arif said this literature was not available in Pakistan, and when it was published here people would benefit from it.
In response to Syed Sarwar Sahib's remark Iftikhar Arif suggested that public and the youth in particular should not be prevented from going to Ajmer Sharif during their journey to India. Iftikhar Arif described Ghausul Azam of Ajmer as one among the foremost divines, successful in imbibing Islamic teachings among people of all faiths.
Earlier, in his lecture, Syed Sarwar Chishti, dwelling on the life and teachings of the great saint said that Ghausl Azam preached love and understanding among all people inclusive of their faith.
Syed Sarwar Chishti Sahib quoted the Indian Ambassador telling him that he wanted more Pakistanis to visit Ajmer Sharif but he had limited staff for issuance of visas. Chairman Islamic Ideology Council Dr Masud Khalid said "We need to have greater faith in our values, and we could regain in this from study of Sufism'.
