Minister for Industries, Production and Special Initiatives Jahangir Khan Tareen has said that the recent visit of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to China has been a great success.
Talking to reporters on Saturday, he said that in depth discussions were held with Chinese government on various issues and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Chinese leadership agreed on a framework of co-operation for the next decade.
The Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and the delegation held meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and Chairman National People's Congress Mw Bangguo and held discussions on areas of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz held discussions with Chinese authorities on all important issues and co-operation in different sectors was discussed in detail. Chinese government in meetings with the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz showed commitment to go extra mile regarding co-operation in different sectors with Pakistan.
He said that the Chinese leaders praised the economic progress made by Pakistan in recent years. They told Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz that economic reforms carried out by him in Pakistan offered great opportunities to Chinese investors, said the minister. He also told the media people that during the visit a number of agreements were signed between China and Pakistan. A detailed plan of action to implement these agreements is being formulated.
Tareen stated that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and the Chinese leadership also agreed to work towards long-term joint ventures in different sectors of the economy. As a follow-up to the agreements signed during the visit the Chinese government has invited Pakistan to participate in Sixth Asem Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) ministerial meeting to be held in Beijing on 30-31 October, 2007.
Pakistan has also been invited to participate in Asem Trade and Investment Fair to be held in Qingdao, China on 29 October 2007. He also informed that he will lead a Pakistani delegation to attend the Sixth Asem SMEs ministerial meeting to be held in China.
