Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Chief of MMA has said that government was making an abortive attempt to hijack the opposition's drive for perpetuating its unlawful rule, but opposition would not let it stay in power. He was delivering his speech at Islamic lawyers' convention.
He said that present regime was getting published its articles and news items in favour of General Pervez Musharraf to pose him as the most popular personality of Pakistan so that rigging in elections could be countered.
Qazi said that present regime would engineer the general elections to get elect its favourites and to stay in power. He said that there was a dire need of changing in the existing set-up because every Pakistani was demanding changes in the government because existing set-up had failed to alleviate the poverty, minimise the crimes, reducing the prices of essential commodities, ending lawlessness, joblessness and anarchy.
He said what a pity that a chief justice of Pakistan was running for justice and Chief of Army Staff is seeking security and people are demanding peace and a loaf of bread. Qazi said that there was a dire need of fresh blood and alternate leadership in the country and Jamaat-i-Islami would introduce the alternate leadership. He said that change or revolution needs sacrifices and blood.
He urged upon the JI workers, lawyers to inform people that there was no lack of leadership in the country. Lashing out at United States Qazi said that United States was responsible for bloodshed in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and other countries.
He asked where were the missing people whose parents and dears were protesting daily in front of Parliament and Supreme Court of Pakistan. Qazi said that 'deal' would isolate both Musharraf and Benazir. He said that Allah Almighty was going to take a very noble task of making the judiciary free on the hands of General Musharraf. He said that present agitation in the favour of free judiciary was parallel to the Pakistan Movement and it was a very big movement as the people from different walks of life were joining the movement.
He said that prosperity and democracy could not be nourished in society where there was no free judiciary. He was of the view that poor and weak judiciary was causing corruption in the country since in the past courts supported the corrupt elements by exonerating them from the corruption changes when they were in power.
