Chairman Utilities Sub-Committee of Pakistan Hardware Merchant Association (PHMA) Asghar A. Morawala has taken a serious note on behalf of the members of PHMA on massive load shedding and frequent power breakdowns. He demanded uninterrupted power supply, as KESC after its privatisation is committed to it.
He complained that the city's normal life, along with its business and industrial activity were being tinned by what he termed as deliberate neglect and corruption of the KESC staff particularly those belonging to its technical department.
He urged the President and Paine Minister to intervene and seriously address the problem. He also take up the matter with Minister of Power Liaquat Jatoi and Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad and demanded 100MW extra from Wapda so that Karachiites may get relief.
He also demanded that those responsible for ruining the KESC and Karachi's wade, industry and normal civic life must be taken to task for causing such a colossal national loss.
He requested the authorities concerned to establish mutually acceptable operational formula to tide over the present critical situation, until the problem was resolved on a permanent basis and with the representations of the business community especially regarding scheduled load shedding.
In case there is any programme of load shedding business community may please be taken into confidence to prepare the schedule. He also emphasised that in previous years they have witnessed no relief, by early closure of commercial centres and was of the opinion that most customers comes to commercial centres in peak hours ie 6:00 to 9:00 pm.-PR
