Top seed Aamir Atlas and Mansoor Zaman on Saturday qualified for the final of US $25,000, Governor NWFP International Squash Championship by defeating their rivals in the semi-finals played at Hashim Khan Squash Complex.
Aamir Atlas won against his Pakistan rival Shahid Zaman defeating in a straight three sets by 11/4, 11/8 and 11/9 while Mansoor Zaman overpowered New Zealand based Pakistani Kashif Shuja by 10/11, 11/6, 11/7 and 11/5.
Station Commander, Brigadier Saleem Ashraf, who was chief guest on the occasion announced a cash amount of Rs 50,000 for NWFP Squash Association and distributed free rackets and balls among the deserving players of the province. He appreciated the efforts of NWFP Squash Association for the promotion of the sport in the province.
The final of the championship is being played today (Sunday) at 4:00pm with Governor NWFP Lieutenant General Ali Mohammad Aurakzai (Retd) as chief guest. Aamir Atlas, top seed player of the tournament is hopeful for the revival of the lost glory of squash said, he is working hard and practicing for winning laurel for the country.
