The suicide attack on Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao at his hometown - killing 28 people and injuring scores of others - is likely to dominate the National Assembly proceedings here on Monday.
It is expected that there would be a heated debate on the worsening law and order situation across the country, especially in view of the suicide attack on Sherpao, curfew in Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Para Chinar and open defiance of the government's writ in the heart of the capital by clerics of Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa female students.
The opposition parties, on a number of occasions, have flayed the government and called for a review of its internal and external policies.
Though, the religio-political alliance MMA governs the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) yet an attack on the interior minister who is responsible for the internal security of the country has set fuel on the already burning issue of government's failure to restore peace and security in the four provinces.
Besides a debate on the Charsadda attack through Points of Order or some adjournment motions, the opposition is also likely to press the government to take up the resolution it had moved to condemn the opposition for what it called politicising of the Presidential reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The opposition wants to discuss the ongoing judicial crisis in the country following the filing of Presidential reference against the Chief Justice in the Supreme Judicial Council and later manhandling of Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry by the security personnel.
The issues of serving show cause notices on private news channels including Aaj Television by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) which affects freedom of press is also likely to figure in the coming weeks proceedings.
The government has so far been avoiding debate on a number of adjournment motions to discuss the deteriorating performance of the national flag carrier-Pakistan International Airline.
