Director General Health Services Sindh Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi has said that all out efforts are being made to make Sindh a polio-free province of the country and successful completion of three-day Anti-Polio Campaign in all 23 districts is a part of this pledge of the Provincial Health Department.
Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi said during the campaign from April 24 to 26, the vaccination teams administered the oral polio drops to a total of 65,29,483 children of under-five years.
He said a total of 16,504 mobile vaccination teams were engaged to visit door to door to administer polio drops to the children. Besides, 1,836 fixed vaccination centres and 1,266 transit points were also set up all over Sindh where the concerned staff administered oral polio drops to the children of under five years age, he added.
The Director General Health Services further said that as compared to 40 polio cases, reported from different parts of the country including 16 from NWFP, 12 from Sindh, 10 from Balochistan and two each cases from Punjab province in the year 2006, only seven cases have been reported up to April 2007, which include three from Sindh province and two each from NWFP and Balochistan provinces.
It was the result of successful Anti-Polio Campaigns launched since the start of the year, he added. Dr Hadi Jatoi said after completion of the current campaign five more Anti-Polio Drives would be launched during the remaining part of the year.
