Minister of State for Information Tariq Azeem said on Thursday that press in Pakistan had never been so free in the history of the country as it was today and Pakistani media was enjoying unprecedented freedom.
Talking to BBC Radio, he said if you had a look on private television channels, you could see there were 33 channels functioning presently and there was only PTV some years ago.
He said it was absolutely baseless allegation that any journalist had been tortured and, God forbid, if a journalist was abducted and if he was involved in other activity, the government should not be accused of that.
Tariq Azeem said at some places, it was clearly written that no one could take photographs and no journalist had free license to enter any premises he wanted, adding he could not make photographs of prohibited areas.
The freedom which the press and media enjoyed in Pakistan today was never available to the media before, he said, adding it was an established fact and no body could deny this.
