Absentee doctors would face exemplary punishment and stern action would be taken against them because we cannot ruin our Health Reforms Programme for merely 25 percent elements who are habitual absentees, said Mian Faisal Mukhtar City District Nazim of Multan.
While delivering his speech at refresher training of doctors working at Rural Health Centres and Basic Health Units on Saturday. He suggested that all the doctors and paramedical staff should be under the control of directorate of health instead of secretary Local Government who did not know nothing about health.
He said that City District Government had planned to vaccinate the 85,000 children to save them from Hepatitis- B, for this purpose we have asked the federal government to provide vaccination at least for 50,000 and remaining would be borne by the local government. He said we had decided to allocate Rs 5 million for epidemics like gastro-enteritis, Malaria etc.
He said that Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had assured to allocate funds for the construction of District Head Quarter Hospital Multan in next budget and he asked the secretary health to submit the case to Planning and Development division immediately.
He said that there was no utility of beautiful buildings and modern machinery in hospital if we could not provide healthcare to the people at their doorstep. He stressed the need for changing the mindset of the doctors. They should work with devotion and conviction to serve the humanity.
Secretary Health Services Raees Abbas Zaidi said that all the Rural Health Centres and Basic Health Units would have to submit their monthly reports regularly. In which they have to show how many patients visited their centres and got relief. He said that present government wanted to provide health facilities at the doorstep of the rural population and it was providing special allowance to the medical officers and other staff for serving in rural areas.
Director General Health Service Punjab Dr Aslam Chaudhry said that Multan was most important city after Lahore where 16 nurses, 74 midwives, dental surgeon, four LHVs are immediately required.
The training programme was also addressed by Azhar Masud Bhatti, EDO (Health), Ahmed Darvesh, Ismat-ullah Chaudhry, Najam Saeed, Ahmed Pervez and others. They said that there was acute shortage of resources in the health centres, labour rooms were not operational in 12 Basic Health Units and no family planning work in 19 districts.
