Increasing temperature in southern Punjab has caused of increasing the numbers of gastro patients in hospitals and the government has yet to take precautionary measures.
"Despite outbreak of the gastro disease, the hospitals are having only routine facilities and there is nothing extra-ordinary as far precautionary steps are concerned," official sources at Directorate of Health commented.
As all over the country once again the Gastro-enteritis has is being spread and almost every hospitals is receiving a large number of Gastro patients on daily basis.
Nishtar Hospitsal, Multan sources said that they are receiving daily almost 400 patents of seasonal disease out of which twenty to thirty patients are of Gastro-enteritis.
While commenting on the situation, Prof Dr Laiq Hussain, Principal of Nishtar Medical College said that heat is a major factor and slight carelessness could trigger Gastro problem.
Although we are receiving daily a number of gastro patients but still the situation is not alarming in the city but we are fully prepared to cope with any emergency situation in this regard.
Gastro-enteritis means inflammation of the stomach and small and large intestines. Viral gastro-enteritis is an infection caused by a variety of viruses that results in vomiting or diarrhea.
It is often called the "stomach flu," although it is not caused by the influenza viruses. The basic reason of this disease is unhygienic food and contaminated water. People should avoid having unhygienic food and they should prefer freshly cooked food in summer season in order to avoid Gastro-enteritis he further added.
The main symptoms of viral gastro-enteritis are watery diarrhea and vomiting. The affected person may also have headache, fever, and abdominal cramps (stomach-ache).
