The Senate body on Interior has demanded the complete audit of National Police Foundation by a team appointed by the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) in view of irregularities.
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, the chairman of the committee, Senator Talha Mehmood said that Standing Committee on Interior has observed that there was no proper audit of the police foundation funds, which the members wanted under the supervision of AGP to ascertain whether the funds were used for police personnel welfare.
Moreover, he said that the Police Foundation, in last few months, has inflicted Rs 50 million loss to its glass factory. The committee wanted the deadline to recover the loss, he added.
Talha said that the Police Foundation has been illegally allotting plots from its housing scheme to a company named Land Linkers. The said company has sold over 200 plots for millions of rupees, he added.
"The committee has constituted a sub-committee to probe the matter and submit the report within 30 days" said the chairman adding that the performance of the FIA was also deplored, cases of human smuggling have become a challenge for the country and the agency has failed in checking them.
He said that most gruesome aspect of human smuggling was inhumanity and every member of the committee was shocked to learn that the people involved in the business threw 10 Pakistanis in sea to reduce boat weight in which they were travelling.
The committee has directed the FIA to nab the people involved in human smuggling besides setting up a special court in Gujranwala Division.
The committee also recommended that the FIA be given more powers to deal with the issues such as intellectual property rights and trade marks. The agency has not been able to act against trade marks, as a result, fake medicines are being sold openly in the market.
Talha was of the view that committing human smuggling and other FIA related crimes was impossible without the help of its officials, hence, he sought complete information about the officials found involved in such activities.
The committee was told that as many as six Assistant Directors were suspended on such allegations, he added.
