President General Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday said Pakistan and Nato were partners in supporting stability in the region and in the fight against terrorism and reconstruction was the key to durable peace in Afghanistan. The President was talking to Nato Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, who called on him here.
President Musharraf conveyed Pakistan's deep appreciation for Nato's strong support to Pakistan in the wake of tragic earthquake in October 2005 when a large number of Nato personnel contributed to relief efforts in the affected areas.
The President said Pakistan and Nato emphasised that reconstruction and development was the key to durable peace in Afghanistan. He also apprised the Nato Secretary General about the efforts to counter extremism and the comprehensive strategy that Pakistan had adopted for Fata development. Nato Secretary General, who is on his first ever visit to Pakistan, appreciated Pakistan's support to promoting peace and stability in the region and its efforts against terrorism.
