Load Management Schedule of the government would have negative impact on business of the country, said Dr Hasan Sarosh Akram, president, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) on Tuesday.
"The government should announce two holidays in government offices and public sector enterprises to overcome power shortage instead of forcing early closure of shopping centers", he said while talking to Business Recorder.
Dr Hasan Sarosh Akram said the government should keep in mind that small shopkeepers and small and medium entrepreneurs are conscious of their expenses and they are using power economically. Bulk of electricity is being consumed by government and public sector enterprises, which could be saved if measures are taken. Small shopkeepers are consuming less electricity than the secretariat and other office complexes, roads in federal and provincial capitals and huge boards, he added.
The RCCI chief said the government has announced a power management schedule to overcome the power shortage in the country arising due to increased use of electricity. But, it would not work as it would create problems for shopkeepers as well as shoppers, he added.
He said that in this hot weather people prefer to stay home during day time and come out in the evening for shopping and recreation. Rather they wait for Saturdays and Sundays to shop in the evenings, he said.
Dr Hasan Sarosh Akram asked the government to withdraw this decision and provide duty-free generators to shopkeepers to overcome the load-shedding. The business community should be given duty relief in importing small generators to run their businesses in the evening, he demanded.
