Overruling the notification of City District Government Karachi (CDGK) regarding fixation of fresh milk price the Sindh High Court (SHC) maintained interim retail and wholesale milk prices, that had been earlier fixed by the court at Rs 32 and Rs 30 per litre respectively.
SHC's division bench comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Ali Sain Dino Metlo directed to continue interim fresh milk prices in Karachi while hearing of petition filed by All-Karachi Milk Retailers Welfare Association against fixing retail price of fresh milk at Rs 28/litre by CDGK. SHC observed despite court order CDGK did not submit report about meeting with all stakeholders to decide fair and justified price of milk and directed CDGK counsel to submit the same.
It also directed to place matter before Chief Justice so that it would be forwarded to same division bench that earlier directed CDGK to fix interim price of fresh milk with in 60 days. SHC's division bench comprising Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Yasmeen Abbasi on March 6, 2007 adjourning petition for two months, directed official concerned of CDGK to convene meeting with stakeholders to decide fair and justified price.
