Punjab government has devised a strategy to ensure the provision of safe and clean drinking water to the masses across the province at a cost of Rs 15 billion. Punjab Minister for Environment Dr Anjum Amjad was talking to a delegation of social welfare organisations here on Tuesday.
He said that under the action plan 1,000 water supply schemes would be completed with five billion rupees in the first phase, according to official sources. In the second phase Rs 10 billion would be spent in replacing old water and sewer pipelines, said the minister.
He told the delegation that water-testing laboratories had already been set up under the Environment Protection Department to ensure provision of potable water to the people.
"Apart from this, filtration plants are being installed at the Union Council level to ensure the availability of safe and filtered water to the people, and this project will be completed by the end of this year," he added.
