Believe it or not but it is an astonishing fact that Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco) is sending electricity bill to even those citizens who have no electricity connection. This fact came to light when Muhammad Naeem Akthar, a resident of Mughalpura approached the Lesco office for redressal of his problem.
He told this scribe that neither he applied for the installation of second electricity meter at his house nor there was any meter there. But he was receiving monthly electricity bill of Rs 150, he regretted.
'No body is listening to me and my complaint is lying unattended. The Lesco officials, on the other hand are threatening me to pay the bill', he pointed out. When contacted, director customer services told this scribe that he would look into the matter and resolve the issue.
Moreover, during visit to Lesco Headquarter it reveals that despite repeated public complaints regarding over-billing, Lesco has failed to address the public complaints.
Around 30-50 consumers are daily approaching the Lesco consumers office for correction of the electricity bills, it has been learnt. Muhammad Habib Usmani s/o Muhammad Attique Usmani, a resident of Ichrra said: "Meter reader of my area did not visit this premises and used to send bills on high readings and whenever matter was brought into the notice of SDO, he replied to adjust the amount in next bill. I am a salaried person and unable to pay high amount of electricity charges' he regretted.
Another complainant Sajjad said: "We are receiving bills for the last three months, although the meter reader has never come for reading. When asked whether he contacted the competent authority of Lesco, he said that there was no positive response except the assurance that in the next month there will be no extra billing", he replied.
