Without promoting female education no country can aspire to achieve progress and prosperity. The wife of Japanese ambassador to Pakistan Tammy Kojima here told a conference on " Female Empowerment" organised by National Bank of Pakistan.
She attributed Japan's progress to quality education and persistent policies of the government for promotion of education. She said Japan has gone through all stages of development particularly in the education sector, which Pakistan is now going through.
Expressing her views about separate educational institutions for male and females she said " Earlier we also had segregated education system, which proved beneficial to enhance literacy rate as females particularly in rural areas do not prefer co-education."
She said majority of population in Pakistan comprises of young people who can take part in social welfare projects and take the country to the acme of prosperity. Referring to Japan she said major chunk of population there, are in their old age and this is a slight disadvantage for the developed country.
"In Japan, housewives are not restricted to their domestic affairs but actively take part in social welfare programs and thus serving the humanity in all possible means," she said. She called upon women in Pakistan to take part in social welfare programs and share their responsibility in national uplift. She also highlighted Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and said it would help achieve the aim of reducing extreme poverty by 2015.
